This unusual Panerai Radiomir Eilean boasts an unlikely link to the pop group Duran Duran. The Eilean was the name of the luxury yacht that appeared in the big-budget video for their 1982 hit ‘Rio’, before sinking in a Caribbean harbour soon after. In 2006, Angelo Bonati, former CEO of Panerai, spotted the boat in a state of disrepair and had it restored, re-launching it in 2009 as part of an advertising campaign. This Radiomir, released in 2021, pays tribute to the Eilean, with a caseback engraved with the yacht’s name and the year it was built (1936). Besides the stainless-steel cushion case and wire-style lugs (now screwed in rather than soldered on like vintage Radiomir models), it features a brown dial decorated with a striped pattern that echoes the teak boards found on the Eilean’s deck. It runs on the in-house manual-wind Caliber P.6000. This Panerai Radiomir Eilean PAM01243 has a Brown Quarter Arabic dial and a Leather strap.
